Sarah Rose

June 17th - July 31st, 2024

“Ignitions“

A sculptural and lighting installation by Sarah Rose made during her residency stay in Versam.
Rose shares an interest with the Art Collective Versam to reuse the garage space for other means.
The car garage has been transformed into a temporary moth enclosure. In the project „Ignitions“ Rose is currently reflecting on the multiple ways human and non-humans move around the landscape to activate desires and diversions whilst engaging in a network of energy sources and storage systems. The moth has been an ongoing preoccupation of Rose and has become a protagonist to navigate ideas around liberation, adaptation and individuation.

Her sculptures have been made from found domestic and agricultural objects from the storage spaces of the property, alongside paper works remoulded from newspaper and cardboard subtracted from the local transport and recycling systems. These paper works are lit carefully to lure the moths. The installation engages in photographic processes and image transfers and is accompanied by a sound work that uses nocturnal field recordings.

In the morning viewers are invited to revisit the gallery to experience the moths release - a ‘live’ photograph and momentary capture of the different species of moth that have made their home and habitat within the locale of the Kunst Garage and the village of Versam.
Opening on July 27th 2024 from 5 pm to 8 pm
