Chris Hunter

October 14th - October 27th, 2024

Chris Hunter (1983) was born in Chur and lives and works in Basel and Flims. His practice ranges from intimate studio work to opulent collective productions. Arte Povera-like, discarded everyday objects to colorful watercolor sketches are his material. Memories and traces from life and the environment are the basis of his work. He looks for the poetry and humor of everyday life and makes these moments and stories visible to those around him. During his two-week stay in Versam, the focus was on the interfaces between rational and irrational phenomena. Banalities, science, practicality and spirituality accompany each other and inhabit the same places.

"I would like to work in my studio like I do in my kitchen. I compose available ingredients like music. The arrangements form a micro-society. Taste experiences are repeated and varied. Both the preparation and the eating are a pleasure. The later memory is the taste. And everything always has to do with balance. Balance does not reset everything to zero. Rather, balance brings things to light.

I greet all my friends and also my families - you are like the worms that turn the earth into humus - you help to write history." (Chris Hunter)
